The body needs insulin in order to make use of the carbohydrates ingested, turning them into energy for the cells. When the body cannot produce enough insulin to keep up with carbohydrate ingestion, or when the body\u2019s cells require higher than normal quantities of insulin, diabetes mellitus occurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
